Preparation, characterization and efficacy of hyaluronic acid-modified two targeted liposomes for ectoin delivery to the skin
Abstract: In biomedicine and cosmetics, skin-targeted drug delivery is crucial yet challenging due to the skin complex barrier. Low molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HA) shows targeting ability as it can bind to CD44 receptors overexpressed on fibroblasts. Two types of targeted liposomes were developed in this study, covalently modified hyaluronic acid-ectoine liposome (HA-ECT-LPs) and non-covalently modified hyaluronic acid-chitosan-ectoine liposome (HA-CS-ECT-LPs). DSPE can stabilize liposomes through the interaction of low molecular weight HA chains in bilayer, and can be covalently modified on the surface of liposomes after coupling with HA. The non-covalently modified liposomes adsorbed HA electrostatic onto the surface of chitosan-coated ectodoin liposomes, which can easily and quickly form multilayer liposomes and delay drug release.
FAQ Ectoin and Sodium Hyaluronate Powder
What are the benefits of combining Ectoin and Sodium Hyaluronate?
When used together, ectoin and sodium hyaluronate provide synergistic benefits:
Ectoin protects skin cells and reduces environmental damage
Sodium hyaluronate delivers immediate and long-lasting hydration
The combination improves skin comfort, elasticity, and barrier recovery
This pairing is widely used in anti-aging, sensitive-skin, and dermocosmetic formulations.
Are Ectoin and Sodium Hyaluronate water soluble?
Yes. Both ectoin and sodium hyaluronate are water soluble, making them easy to incorporate into water-based formulations such as serums, gels, lotions, and emulsions.
Can Ectoin and Sodium Hyaluronate be used in pharmaceutical and medical products?
Yes. Pharmaceutical-grade sodium hyaluronate is widely used in ophthalmic solutions, injectables, and medical devices. Ectoin is also used in medical products such as nasal sprays, eye drops, and dermatological treatments due to its safety and protective properties.
