Description of Lanthanum Hexaboride Powder

Lanthanum Hexaboride (LaB₆) Powder is a fine, dark violet powder known for its high thermal stability, low work function, and excellent electrical conductivity. It is commonly used as a cathode material in electron microscopes, X-ray tubes, and other devices requiring efficient electron emission. LaB₆ is also utilized in advanced ceramics, high-temperature coatings, and abrasive applications due to its hardness and durability. It must be handled with care to prevent inhalation and contact with skin or eyes.

Princeton Powder is a leading supplier of Lanthanum Hexaboride (LaB₆) Powder. Lanthanum boride powder is for sale at a good price.

Applications

  • Electron Emission Sources: Due to its low work function, Lanthanum Hexaboride powder is widely used as a cathode material in electron microscopes, X-ray tubes, and other electron emission devices.
  • Thermionic Emission: Employed in applications requiring thermionic emission, such as in vacuum tubes and plasma generators.
  • Abrasives: Sometimes used as an abrasive material in polishing applications due to its hardness.
  • Advanced Ceramics: Incorporated into composite materials and advanced ceramics to enhance mechanical properties.
  • Coatings and Films: Used in high-temperature and wear-resistant coatings.

Lanthanum Hexaboride Powder Reference

Effects of different milling conditions on the properties of lanthanum hexaboride nanoparticles and their sintered bodies

  • In this study, the preparation and consolidation of nanocrystalline LaB6 powders originating from powder blends of La2O3, B2O3 and Mg were reported. A consecutive route of mechanochemical synthesis (MCS) and purification was utilized for the achievement of nano-sized LaB6 powders. As-synthesized powders were leached out from intermediate reaction products or impurities. Then, a sequential step of cold pressing (uniaxial pressure at 800 MPa) and pressureless sintering (at 1700 °C for 5 h under Ar gas flow) were utilized for the consolidation of the purified LaB6 powders.
